5 Must-Do Vehicle Maintenance Tasks for Spring
It’s that time of year again.
Once the sun comes out and the breezes become more warm than chilly, you probably want to get out more.
Before you do, there are some important steps you should take to make sure your vehicle is as ready for spring as you are.
1. Wash and Wax
You’re no stranger to the grit and grime that build up on your car during the winter months.
Not to mention the damaging salt.
Give your car a thorough wash and wax to make sure the crud doesn’t dull your paint job or cause rust.
2. Give the inside the once-over
It’s no fun to clean the car out when it’s freezing, so “stuff” can accumulate.
Once it’s warm, spend a day getting rid of papers, trash, and anything else that doesn’t belong.
Wipe down the dash and vacuum it out – you’ll feel so good!
3. Check the tire pressure
The cool air temperatures of winter can cause the air pressure in your tires to decrease.
Once the air starts getting warmer, the pressure increases.
Make sure you follow the directions in your owner’s manual as to the correct pressure for your particular vehicle.
If you’re intimidated by the idea of doing this yourself, have your trusted mechanic take a look.
4. Inspect the wiper blades
Look for cracks or signs of excessive wear.
A build-up of ice or snow over the winter can cause the rubber to deteriorate and you’ll need your wipers to be functioning at full capacity for a rainy spring.
5. Don’t forget to look under the hood
You definitely want to make sure your vehicle’s engine made it through winter safe and sound.
Look over the belts and hoses, check the coolant, and the oil.
It’s not a bad idea to have these various functions checked out by a mechanic.
You don’t want to take any chances like getting stranded because your car has overheated.
Welcome spring with vehicle maintenance
Making sure your car’s systems are in good working order after the winter just makes good sense.
If you aren’t comfortable doing something on your own, call your mechanic or visit your local dealership.
