Are You Listening to What Your Car’s Brakes Are Telling You?

When your brakes speak, you need to listen.

Your brake system is one of the most important safety features your vehicle has.

If you even have an inkling that something may be malfunctioning, you need to get your car to a mechanic right away.

Even if you don’t notice any warning signs, you should have your brakes inspected annually.

Wondering what those warning signs may be?

What do you hear?
If you hear any of these sounds when you apply your brakes, you need to get them checked out:
  • Screeching
  • Grinding
  • Clicking
Keep your ears open to the noise your brakes are making!

What do you feel?
Sometimes the only sign that something is amiss may be what you feel when you put your foot on the brake pedal.

Watch out for these signs.
  • Pulling. Do you feel your car pull to one side when you brake?
  • Low pedal. Does the brake pedal go down nearly to the floor when you push it?
  • Hard pedal. Do you have to apply a large amount of pressure to the pedal in order to get your brakes to engage?
  • Grabbing. Do you feel a grabbing sensation with the smallest touch to the brake pedal?
  • Vibrations. Does your brake pedal pulse or vibrate when you apply pressure?
  • Indicator light. Is the brake indicator light illuminated on your dashboard?
Any of these occurrences warrant a trip to your mechanic to get to the root of the problem.

It’s all about safety
Of course, your brakes are one of the parts of your vehicle that will eventually wear out, no matter how well you take care of your car.
