Why Is My Car Overheating?

Overheating Car Engine
Why is my car overheating? Why does my car keep overheating? There are a lot of reasons for car overheating, from a leak in the cooling system to an issue with the radiator. Everyone’s vehicle has a “typical” place for their vehicle’s temperature to sit, but most cars will put you in the 195 to 200 degrees Fahrenheit zone. If you start your car and the temperature gauge is higher than normal, do not drive the car. Driving an overheating car can endanger you, and it’ll cost you a ton down the line in North Canton. If that’s the case, our service team can help you get back on the road in no time flat!

What Does It Mean When Your Car Overheats?

If your car is overheating in Canton, there’s likely something larger at play. Here’s some of the most common reasons overheating might happen:

  • There’s a leak in the cooling system, which could be from your radiator, water pump, hoses, head gasket, or thermostat housing
  • If your coolant is wrong, like you put the wrong type in or you’ve got the wrong ratio of coolant to water (a 1:1 mix is your best bet), your engine might overheat
  • If the coolant hose has a blockage in it, that’s another common cause of overheating
  • You’ll likely overheat if your car’s water pump is broken, whether it has a leak or a shifted pump shaft

What to Do When a Car Overheats

If you’re on the road in Hudson, your car might not overheat until you’ve already hit the road. If this happens, turn the AC off and put the heat on full blast. Even though it’s uncomfortable, it’ll keep heat out of your engine. Pull over and don’t try to open the hood for at least 30 minutes. We suggest you call a tow truck and get towed to your local mechanic or the Serra Mazda service bays.
